Lauren Davis is no stranger to the courts of Eastbourne, but it has been a while since she came close to making a quarter-final, as she did on her 2014 debut. As it was, she had to battle through the qualifying rounds, and she has picked up notable victories on the green stuff in the past.
Meanwhile another week, another grass court tournament for Jodie Burrage, whose best result was to reach her maiden WTA final n Nottingham. Burrage nabbed a lucky loser spot but knows that Davis has beaten her very handily in Wimbledon, no less.
Prediction: Davis in three sets.

There is a real chance for Harriet Dart here, as Zhang Shuai’s form since February has been absolutely woeful and she has had no back-to-back wins since Lyon. When you consider she reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, this has been a tough run of luck.
Dart, as always, is enjoying a grass court swing with the benefit of home crowd support, and has both battled and coasted so should feel confidence in her game. This is the first meeting between the pair, but Dart surely must start as the favourite.
Prediction: Dart in three sets.

Safe to say that Sonay Kartal has a golden chance here, being granted a wildcard into the Bad Homburg event, but experience might be against her when she takes on the last year’s returning finalist Bianca Andreescu.
Kartal has continued to make progress at the lower tiers of the tour, but still lacks the consistency to make the main draws on the main tour. Andreescu has nt exactly impressed on the grass but wll have fond memories here last year, and overall has much more experience than Kartal.
However, the Brit has more matches on the green stuff under her belt and the stats reflect that, so she could yet give the Canadian a run for her money,
Prediction: Andreescu in three sets.
