Playing Styles & Prediction

While Boulter is making her main draw clay debut on the WTA tour, she has had the good sense to get some doubles time under her belt with a former Roland Garros finalist in Marketa Vondrousova. Life has been good for Boulter, winning a second WTA title, and her first at the WTA 500 level, in San Diego and a run to the fourth round in Miami.

However, clay will be a whole new experience at this level, despite having won a smattering of 11 matches at the lower ITF levels.

Her opponent proved her worth in battling past her first round encounter but has had to make some progress back up the rankings after a two-month break at the end of last year. Montgomery has the benefit of a quarter-final at the slightly loser WTA 125 tier in Mexico and can certainly boast more time on the dirt this year.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.
