Playing Styles and Prediction

O’Connell has only won back-to-back matches at one tournament this season as the Australian has struggled to find his form despite success on the Challenger tour at the end of last year. Now the 29 year-old will hope to secure a big win ahead of his worst time of year which is the clay court season.

Draper will look to be proactive and aggressive as he will use depth to make O’Connell feel uncomfortable from the baseline as the Brit aims to be unpredictable with his patterns of play. Meanwhile O’Connell will look to come to the net to finish points efficiently as he aims to use his backhand to force Draper into defensive positions. As long as Draper is fully recovered from the illness he suffered in Mexico, then the Brit should have too much quality for the out-of-form O’Connell.

Prediction: Draper in straight sets.
