Tennis | Doubles Round Up | Willis claims ATP Challenger Savannah title

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, USA – Marcus Willis & Christian Harrison entered the Challenger event and were the third seeds. The Brit/American lifted the title dropping only one set.

Marcus Willis teamed up Christian Harrison and were the third seeds. The Brit/American drew Oliver Crawford and Nichols Bybel in the first round. The third seeds managed to break serve in the first set. Crawford & Bybel could not break back and the seeds were ahead. The second set saw Willis and Harrison dominate the other Brit/American pair and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarter-final Willis & Harrison were against Strong Kirchheimer & Toby Kodat. The Wildcard American pair stayed close to the third seeds at the start of the first set, before the Brit/American broke serve to take the lead. The second set saw the seeds dominate and move into the next round 6-4, 6-2.

The semi-final saw Willis & Harrison against the second seeds Federico Gomez & Luis Martinez. The Argentine/Venezuelan were broken early in the first set by the third seeds who took the lead. The second seeds re-grouped in the second set and broke the Brit/American to level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak it was the third seeds that edged through to take the win 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.

In the final the seeds were against unseeded pair Simon Freund & Johannes Ingildsen. The Swede/Danish pair were broken early in the first set by Willis & Harrison who took the lead. The second set was more of the same. Freund & Ingildsen were unable to break the seeds. The Brit/American claimed the title in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Scott Duncan with Alex Rybakov were defeated by Thai-Son Kwiatkowski & Alex Lawson in the first round in Savannah 6-4, 4-6, 10-2.

Joshua Paris with Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha were defeated by Tristan Boyer & Tennyson Whiting in the first round in Savannah 6-2, 6-4.

Julian Cash with Robert Galloway were defeated by Lorenzo Rottoli & Samuel Vincent Ruggeri in the quarter-final in Rome 6-4, 6-4.

Luke Johnson with Skander Mansouri defeated Lorenzo Rottoli & Samuel Vincent Ruggeri in the final in Rome 6-2, 6-4.

Nikolai Marin with Finley Hall were defeated by Abraham Asaba & Dan Martin in the first round in Monastir 6-4, 6-4.

Felix Mischker with Yanaki Milev were defeated by Dinko Dinev & Matthias Ujvary in the semi-final in Antalya 6-4, 6-4.

Madeleine Brooks with Eudice Chong were defeated by Aleksandra Krunic & Arina Rodionova in the quarter-final in Tokyo 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.

Sarah Beth Grey & Yuriko Lily Miyazaki were defeated by Kimberly Birrell & Jang Su-Jong in the quarter-final in Tokyo 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

Tiffany William with Meisha Kendall-Woseley were defeated by Jazmin Ortenzi & Maria Jose Portillo Ramirez in the quarter-final in Mosquera 6-2, 6-1.

Charles Dossetter with Harrison Adams were defeated by Peter Bertran & Thijmen Loof in the quarter-final in Mosquera 6-4, 6-2.

Abigail Amos with Marie Mattraux were defeated by Michaela Bayerlova & Stephanie Visscher in the semi-final in Telde 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.
