WTA Indian Wells Results & Quick Hits

  • Former champions Caroline Wozniacki was first up in the day, and was looking very much like she was in contention for a spot in the semi-finals. But she ran into an in-form Kristina Mladenovic, who has been carving a swathe through tournaments in the lead up to this one. The Frenchwoman took control of the match with some risky shot-making by her own admission in the tie-break – her reward? A spot in her first Indian Wells semi-final.
  • American hopes finally came to an end at the hands of Elena Vesnina. Once more, Venus Williams was slow off the mark, with the Russian capitalising to take the first set, before the American mounted one of her characteristic fight-backs but it just was not to be.
  • The semi-finals take place later on Friday evening.

  • The battle of the Pablos’ threw up some drama. After a lacklustre start to the season, Pablo Cuevas seems to be regaining his form, coming in to the quarter-final off a seven-match winning streak. Pablo Carreno Busta saved two match points to get some timely revenge for losing to the Uruguayan in their last tournament in Sao Paulo.
  • The battle of the night though belonged to Stan Wawrinka, who fought past Dominic Thiem in the night match as he won his 450th match of his career.
