Newly minted British number one Katie Boulter might have played less (WTA tour level) but both players also got grass under their feet in Surbiton, and Daria Snigur has come through qualifying (eventually coming in as a lucky loser into the main draw).
Boulter’s style of play does suit the grass and three of her four WTA quarter-finals have been om the green stuff. In facing Snigur, she will be facing a player with a lot of confidence having made the most of her lucky loser states by dumping out Roland Garros semi-finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Boulter had to come from a set down in their last encounter, and would do well to remember that she is playing someone who is hitting free, and also a former Wimbledon girls champion. She knows her way around on grass.
Prediction: Boulter in three sets.

Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (Grass 2023, WTA level only)
H2H: | Harriet Dart (WR 143) | Anhelina Kalinina (WR 25) |
Tournament Previous Best | QF (2022) | Debut |
1st Serve Return Points Won % | 43.5 | 53.5 |
Return Points Won % | 49.7 | 54.7 |
Break Point Conversion % | 56.5 | 60.0 |
Break Points Saved % | 66.7 | 20.0 |
Total Points Won % | 58.0 | 57.4 |
Anhelina Kalinina came into the grass court season nursing a thigh injury in the Rome final, and subsequently crashed out in the first round of Roland Garros. Harriet Dart has turned a bit of a corner on the grass, having finally mounted a run of wins coming through qualifying to claim her first WTA main draw win of the season.
While Dart does trail Kalinina in terms of return and converting her break point chances, when it comes to saving break points against her, Dart has been far more clutch when it counts. The British qualifier has more time on the grass this season, and with a home crowd behind her, she could give the fifth seed a bit of a battle.
Dart will love to play to the crowd, and will need them to help drive her forward but could have to go the distance.
Prediction: Dart in three sets.

Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (Grass 2023, WTA level only)
H2H: | Jodie Burrage (WR 131) | Magda Linette (WR 21) |
Tournament Previous Best | R16 (2022) | R16 (2015, 2017, 2022) |
1st Serve Return Points Won % | 34.1 | 21.2 |
Return Points Won % | 33.9 | 40.0 |
Break Point Conversion % | 16.7 | 75.0 |
Break Points Saved % | 80.0 | 75.0 |
Total Points Won % | 47.9 | 52.0 |
Jodie Burrage has already experienced the home crowd support, having to edge Tereza Martincova in her opening match and has experienced most of her main draw success on the WTA on grass.
Magda Linette has had a bit of a rough ride of late and could be lacking in confidence. Although she is stronger in most stats, Burrage has been far more effecting in saving break points and has been more aggressive on first serve returns.
Prediction: Burrage in three sets.
