World number one Jannik Sinner is a set away from the semi-finals in Turin for a second year in a row as he takes on Daniil Medvedev for the fifth time this season.

It was one of the matches of the tournament so far but Sinner produced some magical tennis in key moments to defeat Fritz in straight sets. The Italian has been superior and is looking to cap off an incredible week by extending his stay in Turin into the weekend. Furthermore Sinner picking up the year-end world number one trophy in front of his fans and family has sealed an emotional return to Italy as an eighth title of the year beckons.

A familiar foe awaits in his final group stage match in the form of Medvedev with this being their 15th career meeting. Medvedev refocused to defeat De Minaur in straight sets before winding up the Italian crowd by putting his fingers in his ears. It has been another bizarre week for the world number four who has admitted himself that he is losing motivation to compete. However Medvedev showed in his last match that the quality is present and now looks to give Sinner his toughest test of the week.

Sinner will continue to be aggressive but will need to vary up his ways of attacking Medvedev’s defensive game given the slowness of the court. Medvedev will look to take the forehand early, aiming to pin Sinner behind the baseline. A win for Medvedev could secure him a place in the semi-finals so this will be an entertaining match. However Sinner should have too much consistent power and accuracy with the Italian expected to enter the semi-finals with a 100% record.

Prediction: Sinner in three sets.

Day five of the Nitto ATP Finals will begin with another crunch clash as Taylor Fritz aims to continue his incredible season by qualifying for the semi-finals in Turin when he takes on Alex De Minaur.

The American suffered his first loss of the tournament against Sinner but produced an incredible performance, creating multiple opportunities to break the Italian. The US Open finalist has produced some consistently great tennis this season. Now he looks to finish the season by not only reaching the semi-finals in Turin but also achieving a top four seeding at the Australian Open next season.

Standing in Fritz’s way of achieving that is De Minaur who has lost both of his group stage matches so far this week. The Australian has played decent tennis in his debut year at the Nitto ATP Finals but he’s played players that do everything better than he does. However the Australian knows that he is not completely out of the running to reach the semi-finals and will believe he has the game to beat Fritz for a sixth time in his career.

Fritz will use the forehand to create depth and shorter balls from De Minaur as he aims to be as aggressive as possible. Meanwhile the serve will be the key for the Australian as he looks to end his season on a high note. Tactically this match plays into De Minaur’s hands but Fritz will be highly motivated to secure a place in the last four.

Prediction: De Minaur in three sets.
