World number one Jannik Sinner aims to continue his red-hot form this season as he takes on the player he defeated to win the US Open in the form of Taylor Fritz on day three of the Nitto ATP Finals.

It was the first time that Sinner has competed in front of his home fans as world number one with the Italian determined to put on a show. Despite going down an early break, Sinner proved that he is the man to beat at this tournament with a convincing win over De Minaur. It was Sinner’s eighth consecutive win over the Australian and now the top seed aims to move onto bigger tests, continuing his incredible season so far which has seen him win two Grand Slam titles.

The next big challenge for Sinner is a rematch of the US Open final against Fritz who began his campaign with a straight sets win over a bizarre Medvedev. The American has had another amazing which included reaching his first Grand Slam final in front of his home fans. A big serve and incredible athleticism, Fritz knows he has the game to beat any player in the world but the question remains as to whether he can do it consistently when the pressure is on.

Sinner will aim to use the forehand to pin Fritz behind the baseline as he looks to take the ball early and be aggressor in the match. Meanwhile the American will look to serve accurately and with authority as he aims to put as much pressure on Sinner as possible. This is a match where Fritz should play his best tennis as he has nothing to lose not only in being an underdog but also having won his first match. However, Sinner should have too much consistent quality for the big-serving American.

Prediction: Sinner in three sets.

The first singles match on day three in Turin will see former champion Daniil Medvedev take on Alex De Minaur after both players started their Nitto ATP Finals campaigns with contrasting defeats.

Starting with Medvedev, the fourth seed embarrassed himself with a crazy performance in his defeat to Fritz. There were all sorts of antics as he had virtually given up in the second set as he was on the receiving end of some Italian booing and whistling. The former US Open champion has already given up on his season so it’s tough to know what to expect from his remaining matches but if he can concentrate for the next two matches then he can give himself an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

In stark contrast, De Minaur produced a very impressive performance despite his straight sets defeat to Sinner. Given that it was the Australian’s debut at the Nitto ATP Finals, De Minaur produced an encouraging performance as his serve was the key to making the match as competitive as it was. Now he will look to build on that performance with two winnable matches coming up as he aims to gain momentum heading into next season.

Medvedev will use the forehand to dictate play and will create angles to move De Minaur out of position. The Australian will need to serve with pace and depth as he will use the drop shot to move Medvedev into all areas of the court. If Medvedev takes this match seriously then he will be favourite to win this match but De Minaur’s consistency is a safer prediction at this stage of the season.

Prediction: De Minaur in three sets.
