Heading into Indian Wells, world number one Aryna Sabalenka was lacking confidence and form but has now swung the momentum in her favour. A run to the final at Indian Wells has now been followed by back-to-back wins in Miami as she is playing flawless tennis. Now with Madison Keys and Mirra Andreeva out of the tournament, the top seed will look to seize the opportunity and claim her first Miami Open title.
The current Miami Open champion stands in Sabalenka’s way as Danielle Collins is up next. The American stunned the world last year by storming to a maiden WTA 1000 title and was seemingly on her way to retiring at the end of 2024. However, Collins has changed her mind and now looks to defend her title in Florida as she has started this season in decent form. Now Collins bids to elevate her level when it matters most and cause more upsets in Miami in her bid to defend the title.
Sabalenka will aim to be aggressive on serve and use the forehand to neutralise Collins’ baseline play. The American will need to return smartly as she looks for depth and will need to use variety to force errors from Sabalenka’s play. This will be a decent test for Sabalenka but the world number one is expected to make it a seventh consecutive win over the American.
Prediction: Sabalenka in three sets.

It’s been a fantastic start to the year for Alex De Minaur who continues to prove he belongs at the top of the game. The Australian backed up his first ever Australian Open quarter-final with a run to the final at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam. Since then De Minaur has shown consistent form and now targets more success at the bigger events as he has an accurate and efficient serve to match his speedy footwork.
A severe test awaits De Minaur in the form of Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca who keeps going from strength to strength. Fonseca started his season by qualifying for the Australian Open before defeating Andrey Rublev in the main draw. Then Fonseca went on to win his maiden ATP title in Buenos Aires and has since won a Challenger event in Phoenix as well as reaching the third round in Miami. Fonseca has a powerful forehand and a deadly serve as the Brazilian now looks to master the art of consistency in his bid to continue his rapid rise up the rankings.
De Minaur will need to be aggressive on serve as he aims to take Fonseca’s legs out of the equation and be smart with his patterns of play. Meanwhile Fonseca will be aggressive on the forehand while using the drop shot to make De Minaur. This will be a very good experience for Fonseca but De Minaur should have too much tennis IQ for the fast rising Brazilian.
Prediction: De Minaur in three sets.

It was another disappointment for Iga Swiatek at Indian Wells as her wait for a title in 2025 continues. The Pole has been so good at being consistently in the latter stages of tournaments but has always fell short when it matters most. The feeling of losing doesn’t sit well with Swiatek and now the world number two seeks revenge and will love nothing more than to head into the clay court season with a title to her name.
An in-form Elina Svitolina awaits in the fourth round as the Ukrainian has earned back-to-back wins over Belinda Bencic and Karolina Muchova in order to reach the last 16. Svitolina has had a fantastic start to the season and has really elevated her game in the big moments in order to make significant progress. Now Svitolina will aim to score another big win as she has her eyes set on another deep run at a big tournament.
Swiatek will aim to put pressure on Svitolina by serving aggressively and dictating play on the forehand. Svitolina will look to be aggressive on the backhand and finish points off at the net. This will be a tight contest with both players playing well in Miami but Swiatek’s consistent quality may just edge a terrific fourth round clash to end the day’s play in Florida.
Prediction: Swiatek in three sets.
