Brit of the Week

Billy Harris entered the ATP Challenger event and played in qualifying. The Brit lost in the final round of qualifying but as the top seed was in line for a lucky loser place. Harris made the main draw after Alexis Galarneau withdrew. In the first round the Brit was against Enzo Couacaud. The Frenchman found Harris too good. The first set saw the Brit dominate and barely put a foot wrong. Couacaud struggled to get into the match. After Harris eased through the first set and started the second the same way, the Frenchman was unable to continue and withdrew from the match. This handed the win to Harris who moved into the next round in straight sets 6-1, 1-0 (RET).

The second round saw the Brit against Marek Gengel. The Czech player stayed with Harris at the start of the first set. Eventually, though, the Brit secured the vital break of serve and moved into the lead. The second set was a little easier for Harris as he broke serve early and took the lead. The Brit moved into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against the second seed Tristan Schoolkate. The Australian struggled in the first set as Harris dominated and took the lead. The second set saw the seed re-group and dominate to level the match. The final set saw both players fight hard. It looked like it would head to a tiebreak, however, Harris managed to break serve right at the end to take the match 6-2, 1-6, 7-5.

The semi-final saw Harris against third seed Brandon Holt. The American dominated the first set as the Brit struggled to stay with the seed. In the second set the Brit played better, staying with the American and forcing a tiebreak. Unfortunately, in the breaker, it was the American who edged through and took the win 6-2, 7-6(4).
