DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara entered the ATP 500 event and were second seeds. The Brit/Fin pairing made the final.

Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara entered the event in Dubai and were second seeds. In the first round the Brit/Fin were against Nicolas Mektic & Michael Venus. The Croatian/Kiwi stayed with the seeds in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker it was Mektic & Venus that edged through and took the lead. The second set saw the seeds re-group and mount a fight back. Patten & Heliovaara kept pace with the Croat/Kiwi and forced a tiebreak. In this one the Brit/Fin edged a very tight breaker and levelled up the match. In the match tiebreak the seeds got the vital break needed and took the match in three sets 6-7(5), 7-6(8), 10-6.

In the quarter-final the seeds were against Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski. The first set was relatively close but eventually Patten & Heliovaara got the break of serve and moved into the lead. The second set was much easier for the seeds, who dominated and barely put a foot wrong. The second seeds eased into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

The semi-final saw the Brit/Fin against Robin Haase & Hendrik Jebens. The Dutch/German pair got off to the better start, staying close to the seeds and breaking them to take the first set. The second set saw Patten & Heliovaara re-group. The seeds broke early and levelled up the match. In the match tiebreak the seeds edged through to book a spot in the final 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

In the final the second seeds were against unseeded pair Yuki Bhambri & Alexei Popyrin. Patten & Heliovaara started well, breaking early and taking the lead. The second set saw the unseeded pair fight back. Staying with the Brit/Fin and forcing a tiebreak. In the breaker it was Bhambri & Popyrin that edged a very tight tiebreak and levelled up the match. In the match tiebreak the unseeded pair edged out the seeds and lifted the trophy 3-6, 7-6(12), 10-8.

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Olivia Nicholls with Tereza Mihalikova were defeated by Zhao-Xuan Yang & Yi-Fan Xu in the second round in Dubai 6-3, 6-1.

Lloyd Glasspool & Julian Cash were defeated by Yuki Bhambri & Alexei Popyrin in the quarter-final in Dubai 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-5.

Jamie Murray with John Peers were defeated by Yuki Bhambri & Alexei Popyrin in the semi-final in Dubai 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

Luke Johnson with Sander Arends were defeated by Edouard Roger-Vasselin & Hugo Nys in the first round in Acapulco 6-4, 6-1.

Joshua Paris & Jack Pinnington-Jones were defeated by Noah Zamora & Juan Bianchi in the quarter-final in San Diego 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Jay Clarke with Blake Ellis were defeated by Bernard Tomic & Nicolas Mejia in the first round in Bangaluru 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Marcus Willis with Vasil Kirkov were defeated by Vitaliy Sachko & Beibit Zhukayev in the first round in Lugano 6-2, 6-4.

David Stevenson with Cleeve Harper defeated David Pel & Jakub Paul in the final in Lugano 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Tom Hands & Harry Wendelken were defeated by Patrick Kaukovalta & Eero Vasa in the semi-final in Faro 6-3, 6-3.

Thomas Drayton with Hong-Yu Ye were defeated by Sergi Fita Juan & Iannis Miletich in the first round in Villena 6-4, 7-5.

Mattias Southcombe with Filip Peliwo were defeated by Akram El Sallaly & Jarno Jans in the quarter-final in Sharm-El-Sheikh 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.

Tara Moore with Carmen Corley were defeated by Jessica Failla & Jessie Aney in the first round in Austin 7-6(3), 6-2.

Jodie Burrage with Anna Bondr were defeated by Eden Silva & Madeleine Brooks in the first round in Austin 0-0 (RET).
