Robson Falls to Kvitova in California

By Ros Satar

Petra Kvitova def. Laura Robson 6-1, 6-2

Coming off a marathon first round match, Robson fell to third seed Petra Kvitova in the second round in WTA Carlsbad.

Robson battled for a little under two and three-quarter hours against Japan’s Ayumi Morita but struggled early in both sets against the Czech.

Kvitova dominated early in both sets, although Robson did manage a break back in the second set, as well as curbing a run of the returning double-faults from the first set.

Despite having delivered a famous victory over the former Wimbledon champion earlier this year at the Australian Open, Kvitova was wasting no time opening the match to love, and almost closing in the same way.

Robson still has the doubles, partnering Lisa Raymond and will face the all-American paring of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears.
