Any fears that Emma Raducanu would struggle with the ongoing issues she has had sliding on clay, especially the super-slick variety in Stuttgart, were quickly laid to rest as she breezed past qualifier Storm Sanders.

It took Raducanu a couple of games to get the measure of the particularly slick indoor clay, after being taken to deuce on her first two service games, but once she was away, there was little Sanders could do.

Raducanu won seven games on the bounce before Sanders finally got back on the board but found herself broken once more as Raducanu opened up a double-break cushion, and held on to close out a comfortable win.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Raducanu will need the same problem-solving skills in terms of building points when she faces German lucky loser Korpatsch. She will once more have to adapt to someone very adept on clay – all her nine ITF level titles are on the dirt.

Arguably Korpatsch has far more playing experience, while the ever-pragmatic Raducanu still treats this first year on the tour as a free hit. But she loves the big occasion games, and with a home-crowd rooting for Korpatsch, Raducanu will have to lift herself and prepare for the long game.

She commented in her on-court interview about having to adapt to the longer rallies, and Korpatsch will defnitely be looking to extend the points for as long as she can, but Raducanu generally has more firepower.

Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.
