Playing Styles and Prediction
Andreeva’s stock continues to rise as wins over Swiatek and Rybakina means the 17 year-old is into her first WTA 1000 final.
Now Andreeva aims to claim a landmark milestone in her career and begin her journey to achieving tennis greatness.
After her semi-final win, Andreeva spoke about overcoming the disappointment of Doha and still can’t believe the run she is having in Dubai.
“Honestly, after playing in Doha and losing tough second round, having a lot of opportunities, I just felt a bit down,” Andreeva told the WTA website.
“Not depressed. I was, ‘Well, maybe now this time I’m not playing my best tennis, so OK, it’s fine.’ Last year I didn’t play so good on these courts in Dubai. I was like, ‘Well, OK, whatever. I’m just going to play. We’re going to see.’
“In the end when you don’t think about what’s going to happen, it always ends up being one of the best tournaments of your career. I don’t know if it’s a paradox or something, but it’s just like this.”
Standing in Andreeva’s way is Tauson, who is having an incredible start to the season as she continues to go from strength to strength.
After knocking out Aryna Sabalenka, Tauson has continued her momentum and is now into her first WTA 1000 final and will aim to continue her ruthless form in Dubai.
Ahead of the final Tauson spoke about being consistent and hoping that she will no longer be considered the underdog in matches given her progress.
“I won a lot of good matches this year and played some good tournaments,” Tauson told the WTA website.
“I think the consistency has been very important for me. I don’t think I’ve ever put down these kind of results on this level. So it’s really nice for me that I can go out there and play freely.
“I mean, in most matches on this level I’m going to be the underdog. But hopefully soon I’ll have a better ranking so the pressure’s going to be on me.”
Andreeva will aim to be aggressive on the backhand side as she will use variety to mix up the pace of the rallies.
Meanwhile Tauson will look to take the ball early and limit Andreeva’s time on the ball as she will finish points off at the net.
Both players are in incredible form as two of the brightest talents on the tour go toe-to-toe for a historic feat.
However, Andreeva has looked slightly more steady throughout the tournament and is favourite to edge to victory in Dubai.
Prediction: Andreeva in three sets.
