Harriet Dart had the better of fierce rival Katie Boulter last year as she matched her previous best of reaching the third round, but this year has seen her pick up just one win in the lower tier event in Ilkley.

She will face a rising star from last year, Dalma Galfi, who had an amazing run on the green stuff, which helped her briefly re-enter the top 100 but it is a different story this time, who has largely played in the lower tiers. She did not make the main draw of any of the pre-Wimbledon grass tournaments coming in.

Even though winning honours go to Galfi in 2022 US Open second round, Dart has a chance to get her Wimbledon going given the tough draws of her compatriots. She will have the home advantage and that of having played more in the run-up which could prove pivotal.

Prediction: Dart in three sets.

Hannah Klugman has risen sharply up the junior ranks and won the prestigious Orange Bowl in Florida at the end of 2023 and finished as the runner-up in the junior French Open this year.

She faces US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez who is not necessarily a fan of the grass although it did yield her first back-to-back wins since Doha in February.

Klugman will get a chance to enjoy the feeling once more of having the home crowd behind her but will more than likely treat this as a chance to gain more experience.

Prediction: Fernandez in straight sets.

Another promising junior, Mika Stojsavljevic claimed the US Open junior title last year, and although she failed to get out of qualifying for Queen’s Club, Nottingham and Eastbourne, she has earned herself a wildcard.

She faces Ashlyn Krueger, who has struggled to put together back-to-back wins since Miami and will also be looking for a first career win at Wimbledon.

Prediction: Krueger in straight sets.
