The once formidable Iga Swiatek is still hunting for a title since she claimed a fourth Roland Garros title in 2024. She has slipped a little in the rankings as her age of dominance has waned and she has equalled her previous best at Wimbledon just by reaching the quarter-final.

However, she did reach the final of Bad Homburg and so is finding some confidence on the grass. She might need it as Liudmila Samsonova is enjoying a bit of a renaissance on the green stuff, having reached this stage without dropping a set. It will be worth noting she has two grass court titles to her name.

Swiatek controls their head-to-head, but this will be the first time they have played on grass, but experience overall might just surpass Samsonova’s recent form on grass.

Prediction: Swiatek in three sets.

Belinda Bencic will remember what it was like to be the youngster on the scene when she faces wonder-teen Mirra Andreeva. On the comeback trail after having her first child, she was struggling for wins coming into Wimbledon, but she does have a pedigree on grass, having won Eastbourne back in 2015.

Andreeva’s star is on the rise, but a lot will depend on whether she can keep her emotions in check. She has already tasted the success of a long run here, having come from qualifying to reach the fourth round last year. This year she has reached a quarter-final without losing a set.

Prediction: Andreeva in straight sets

All eyes will be on whether Jannik Sinner shows up for this match. He was reported ly scheduled to have an MRI on his elbow after falling n his arm in his match against Grigor Dimitrov. Sinner was in real trouble, two sets down when a pectoral injury saw a stricken Dimitrov have to retire. Sinner might have two reasons to thank his lucky stars as he has met Shelton before at Wimbledon last year, where he beat the American in the round of 16.

Shelton has risen up the ranks rapidly since he first ventured away from American shores and is a crowd pleaser for his flashy shot making and character. He might not have had the easiest run into the tournament, but he could take comfort from the fact that Dimitriv had Sinner well and truly on the ropes.

Prediction: Sinner in five sets.

Novak Djokovic is still gamely pushing towards the most elusive of tasks – to write Margaret Court out of the record books altogether with sole ownership of 25 Grand Slam titles. We have seen moments of typical Djokovic dominance coupled with vulnerability and being left to look step slow.

Across the net will be Flavio Cobolli who, until April had not been able to string together back-to-back wins at all. The clay court season turned his fortunes around and he backed that up with a run to the quarter-finals of Halle – so should not be underestimated.

Djokovic had a scare when Alex De Minaur raced away with the first set, but came back strongly. He can ill afford to let a younger player take a head start.

Prediction: Djokovic in four sets.
