NOTTINGHAM, UK – Naiktha Bains made the final of both the singles and doubles event. Brit was top seed in the doubles and seventh in the singles.

Naiktha Bains was the seventh seed in the singles in the ITF event in Nottingham. In the first round the Brit was against Adrienn Nagy. The Hungarian found the Brit too strong in the first set as Bains dominated and took the lead. the second set saw Nagy re-group. The Hungarian broke serve and levelled up the match. This spurred on Bains, who played better in the final set. The seed broke serve and moved into the next round 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The second round saw Bains against Alice Robbe. The Frenchwoman went toe-to-toe with the Brit in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker, the seed dominated as Robbe struggled to stay with Bains. The second set was a little easier for the seed, as Bains broke serve and eased into the next round 7-6(2), 6-3.

In the quarter-final Bains was against wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic. The young Brit kept pace with the seed at the start. However, Bains managed to break serve in the first set and take the lead. The second set was a little easier for Bains, as she broke early and moved into the next round 6-4, 6-3.

The semi-final saw Bains against third seed Emily Appleton. The seventh seed started better and secured a break of serve to take the lead. However, the second set saw Appleton re-group, breaking serve herself to level up the match. The final set saw the seventh seed dominate and move into the final 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

In the final the Brit was against unseeded Spaniard Eva Guerrero Alvarez. The Spaniard dominated the first set, as Bains could not keep pace. The second set was much closer. The Brit and Spaniard went toe-to-toe and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the Spaniard edged through and lifted the title 6-2, 7-6(7).

 

Doubles

In the doubles Bains teamed up with Holly Hutchinson and received a bye in the first round. In the quarter-final the top seeds were against Brooke Black & Daniela Piani. The seeds broke serve in the first set to take the lead. The second set, though, was much closer. Black & Paani forced a tiebreak, but the top seeds dominated to move into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(1).

The semi-final saw the top seeds against Esther Adeshina & Julia Adams. This was a very very close match. The first set could not separate the teams and a tiebreak ensued. In the breaker the top seeds edged through and took the lead. The second set started in the same way and looked again to be heading to a tiebreak. However, Bains & Hutchinson managed to break serve right at the end of the set and took the match in straight sets 7-6(6), 7-5.

In the final Bains & Hutchinson were against Alice Robbe & Arlinda Rushiti. The top seeds started better and secured a break of serve to take the lead. The second set saw Robbe & Rushiti break serve and level up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak set. In this the French/Kosovan pairing eased ahead and didn’t look back. Robbe & Rushiti took the title 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Victoria Allen & Amelia Rajecki were defeated by Esther Adeshina & Julia Adams in the first round 0-0 (RET).

Amelie Brooks & Anjali Kotecha were defeated by Charlotte Clarke & Megan Davies in the first round 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Tegan Bush & Marelie Raath were defeated by Freya Christie & Tamira Paszek in the first round 4-6, 6-0, 10-3.

Aimee Bromfield with Elizabeth Kapari Bagerbaseh were defeated by Alice Robbe & Arlinda Rushiti in the first round 6-1, 6-1.

Katy Dunne was defeated by Amelia Rajecki in the second round 6-3, 6-2.

Ranah Stoiber was defeated by Hollie Smart in the second round 6-4, 2-6, 4-3 (RET).

Daniela Piani was defeated by Amarni Banks in the second round 6-3, 6-2.

Amelia Rajecki was defeated by Emily Appleton in the quarter-final 7-6(1), 6-1.

Brooke Black was defeated by Eva Guerrero Alvarez in the quarter-final 6-4, 6-7(12), 6-4.

Hollie Smart was defeated by Amarni Banks in the quarter-final 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-2.

Charlotte Clarke & Megan Davies were defeated by Freya Christie & Tamira Paszek in the quarter-final 6-4, 6-3.
