NEW YORK, USA – Harriet Dart kicked off her 2024 US Open campaign with a strong win over Frances Chloe Paquet and faces 19th seed Marta Kostyuk next.

Harriet Dart was in a hurry as she breezed through her opening round against France’s Chloe Paquet. Dart claimed her second main draw win at Flushing Meadows for the loss of just three games, having enjoyed a resurgence in the later half of the year.
This year Dart has been accompanied by her mother as her coach has remained in the UK, and the dynamic seems to be working. The win should see Dart rise in the rankings into the top 70 which would be a new career high.

Playing Styles & Prediction
Both Dart and Kostyuk are aggressive baseliners but perhaps Kostyuk has more consistency off both wings, while Dart does favour her backhand down the line, which is her most effective weapon. Both move well, but Dart’s biggest weakness has aways been her punishable second serve. This is the area that is most likely to cost her against an opponent against whom she matches up to well.
