Tennis | Rankings Report | Stefanos Tsitsipas returns to top ten after Dubai triumph

  • Stefanos Tsitsipas has returned to the world’s top ten after winning the title in Dubai
  • Tomas Machac is into to the world’s top 20 for the first time after claiming the Acapulco title
  • Meanwhile Katie Boulter has fallen down the rankings as her absence from the tour continues.
DUBAI, UAE – Stefanos Tsitsipas has returned to the world’s top ten after claiming the Dubai title while Katie Boulter tumbled down the rankings ahead of the sunshine double.

ATP Rankings and Brits Top 10

This week’s rankings report is headlines by Stefanos Tsitsipas as the Greek found his form in Dubai. After a turbulent last year, a change of racket did the trick for Tsitsipas as he claimed his first title since Barcelona last year. Defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final means Tsitsipas climbed up two places and is now back into the world’s top ten as he looks to continue his momentum into America.

The other big story was the form of Tomas Machac as the Czech Republican took advantage of a tumbling draw to win his first ATP 500 title of his career. A win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final means Machac makes his top 20 debut as his rise on the ATP tour continues. As for Davidovich Fokina the Spaniard endured another incredible tournament as his run to the final means he climbs up the rankings by nine places to 39 in the world.

In other significant ranking moves, Tommy Paul exited the tournament while Auger-Aliassime moved up three spots to 18 in the world. There was also a 16 place rise up the rankings for Quentin Halys who reached the semi-finals in Dubai as a qualifier while Laslo Djere climbed up 29 places to 74 in the world after winning the title in Santiago.

As for the Brits, Jack Draper went back down two places to 14 in the world after his absence from Dubai while Cameron Norrie’s opening round exit in Acapulco saw him climb down three places to 77 in the world. However, there was an 11 place rise up the rankings for Jan Choinski who is now at 184 in the world.

WTA Rankings and Brits Top 10

The big story on the WTA side is the breakthrough of Emiliana Arango as the Colombian reached the final of the WTA 250 event in Merida. It was an incredible week for Arango before she was thrashed by Emma Navarro in the final. As a result Arango has climbed up the rankings by 53 places to 80 in the world. The other finalist this week was McCartney Kessler and the American has climbed up by eight places into the world’s top 50 despite losing to Jessica Pegula in the final.

As for champions Pegula and Navarro they continue to be in the world’s top ten with Navarro climbing up two places to eight in the world ahead of Indian Wells and Miami. As a result of Navarro’s big week, Mirra Andreeva is out of the world’s top ten and is at 11 in the world while Paula Badosa returns to the elite ten.

In other significant ranking moves Jessica Bouzas Maneiro is up by nine places to 57 in the world. There was an 18 place move up the rankings for Maya Joint who is now at 85 in the world while Ajla Tomljanovic is back in the world’s top 100 after her semi-final run in Austin means she is up 17 places to 94 in the world.

It’s bad news this week for Katie Boulter as the Brit is down 12 places to 38 in the world after her San Diego title points came off this week. Meanwhile there were 13 place climbs for Francesca Jones and Jodie Burrage who both recorded wins at WTA events this week.
