DOHA, QATAR – Julian Cash & Lloyd Glasspool claimed the ATP 500 Doha doubles title. The Brits were unseeded and did not face a seed all event. The final was an all British affair.

Julian Cash & Lloyd Glasspool entered the ATP 500 event in Doha and were unseeded. In the first round they were against Czech qualifiers Petr Nouza & Patrik Rikl. The qualifiers got off to the better start breaking the Brits serve and taking the lead. The second set saw Cash & Glasspool re-group and break the Czech pair to level up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak. The Brits eased through to move into the next round 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.

The quarter-final saw the Brits against Rohan Bopanna & Nuno Borges. In the first set Cash & Glasspool struck first, getting the vital break of serve and taking the lead. The second set saw the Indian/Portuguese pair stay with the Brits and force a tiebreak. In the breaker Bopanna & Borges edged through and levelled up the match. The final set saw the Brits edge ahead in the match tiebreak and move into the next round 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-7.

In the semi-final the Brits were against Yuki Bhambri & Ivan Dodig. Cash & Glasspool were taken to a tiebreak in the first set. The breaker saw the Brits ease through and take the lead. The second set was much easier for Cash & Glasspool, who broke early and held on to take the win in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-3.

The final guaranteed a British pair lifting the title as Cash & Glasspool were against Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski. In the first set Cash & Glasspool played well and managed to break serve early to take the lead. Salisbury & Skupski could not get back into the set. The second set was dominated by Cash & Glasspool and they went on to lift the trophy in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

 

 

Doubles Round Up

Jamie Murray with John Peers were defeated by Marcelo Arevalo-Gonzalez & Mate Pavic in the first round in Doha 6-1, 7-5.

Henry Patten with Harri Heliovaara were defeated by Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski in the semi-final in Doha 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Olivia Nicholls with Terza Mihalikova were defeated by Xinyu Jiang & Zhaoxuan Yang in the second round in Dubai 6-3, 6-1.

Luke Johnson with Sander Arends were defeated by Maximo Gonzalez & Andres Molteni in the first round in Rio 7-6(6), 4-6, 10-7.

Charles Broom & Mark Whitehouse were defeated by David Stevenson & Cleeve Harper in the first round in Pau 7-6(2), 6-4.

David Stevenson with Cleeve Harper were defeated by Jakob Schnaitter & Mark Wallner in the semi-final in Pau 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Billy Harris with Michael Geerts were defeated by Saketh Myneni & Ramkumar Ramanathan in the first round in Pune 6-0, 6-4.

Jay Clarke with Jurij Rodionov were defeated by Blake Bayldon & Matthew Romios in the semi-final in Pune 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.

Finn Murgett with Francisco Rocha were defeated by Patrick Kaukovalta & Quinn Vandecasteele in the semi-final in Vila Real de Santo Antonio 5-7, 7-5, 10-7.

Adam Jones & Matthew Summers were defeated by Joao Vitor Goncalves Ceolin & Daniel Paty in the semi-final in Naples, Florida 6-0, 7-6(3).

Peter Alam with Victor Paganetti were defeated by Nicolas Ifi & Espen Lagarde in the first round in Lannion 6-4, 7-6(3).

Oliver Bonding with Olaf Pleczkowski were defeated by Tomasz Berkleta & Marks Molder in the quarter-final in Lannion 6-7(1), 6-4, 10-8.

Ben Jones & Hamish Stewart were defeated by Axel Garcian & Yanis Ghazouani Durand in the final in Lannion 6-2, 6-4.

Next Week Brits play in Dubai, Acapulco, San Diego, Bangaluru, Lugano, Portugal, Mexico, Spain, Egypt, Austin, Merida, France, Australia, Tunisia & Germany
