Swiatek has a lot more match sharpness coming in, thanks to her turn helping Poland reach the finals of the United Cup, but Raducanu’s return starts with only two matches in Melbourne could give Swiatek pause for thought.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Raducanu is improving match on match but is adjusting to the changes she has made to her serve, so a match up against Swiatek will test that to the extreme. Swiatek is doing her best to put the drug suspension at the end of last season behind her, but she will be aware that it is still a talking point, and an annoying distraction from the job at hand. While hard courts might not be her favourite surface, she is a US Open winner, so she can go all the way on this surface.

Raducanu has yet to take a set off Swiatek in three previous meetings, and twice on the slick indoor clay courts of Stuttgart she has given a decent account of herself. It was less impressive in Indian Wells (2023) where she won just four games, so she will need to sharpen up aspects of her game again.

Prediction: Swiatek in straight sets.
