Fery will need to be proactive on serve as Sonego has been extremely efficient on the big points this season.

Playing styles and prediction

Despite playing some good tennis in some big tournaments, Sonego has not had the most consistent of results this season. The Italian hasn’t won back-to-back matches since Wimbledon and is ending the season in some poor form. Now, the Italian aims to regain some momentum with a good tournament in Sweden as he bids to end the year in the world’s top 50.

Fery will aim to be aggressive on serve, using the backhand to create some good angles and force Sonego into uncomfortable positions on the court. Meanwhile, Sonego will use the forehand to create depth and force Fery into defensive positions on the court. This will be a tough test for Fery but if he can have a good serving day then he has every chance of causing the upset here.

Prediction: Fery in three sets.
