Doubles Round Up | Salisbury & Skupski Runners up at Roland Garros

ROLAND GARROS, PARIS, FRANCE – Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski entered the French Open and made the final. The Brits were runners up to the fifth seeds.

Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski entered the French Open and were the eighth seeds. The Brits drew Andreas Mies & Roman Safiullin in the first round. The Brits dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set was closer, as Mies & Safiullin stayed close. However, the Brits secured the vital break of serve and moved into the next round 6-2, 6-4.

In the second round the seeds were against Guido Andreozzi & Theo Arribage. The Argentine/Frenchman pushed hard in the first set, nearly forcing a tiebreak. However, the Brits broke right at the end of the set and took the lead. The second set was a little easier for Salisbury & Skupski as they secured the break and moved into the next round 7-5, 6-4.

The third round saw the Brits against Nuno Borges & Arthur Rinderknech. The Portuguese/French pair stayed toe to toe with the seeds and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the seeds edged ahead and took the lead. The second set was a little easier for Salisbury & Skupski and they broke serve to move into the next round 7-6(5), 6-4.

In the quarter-final the Brits were against fifteenth seeds Matthew Ebden & John Peers. The first set was very close, as neither side could get the vital break of serve and a tiebreak ensued. In the breaker Ebden & Peers eased through to take the lead. The second set saw Salisbury & Skupski work out the Australians and break serve to level up the match. In the next set the Brits again managed to break serve and move into the next round 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4.

The semi-final saw Salisbury & Skupski were against Christian Harrison & Evan King. The Americans were the ninth seeds and stayed with the Brits and forced a tiebreak. The breaker saw the Americans edge ahead and take the set. The second set saw Salisbury & Skupski break early and level up the match. The final set saw both pairs go toe to toe until another tiebreak ensued. In this breaker, it was the Brits who edged through and moved into the next round 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-6(7).

In the final the Brits were against fifth seeds Marcel Granollers & Horacio Zeballos. The first set saw the Spaniard/Argentine pair dominate, as Salisbury & Skupski could not hold serve. The second set saw both pairs go toe to toe and push to a tiebreak. In the breaker, the Brits edged through and levelled up the match. The final set looked to be going the same way. However, eventually, the fifth seeds broke right towards the end of the set and took the title 6-0, 6-7(5), 7-5.

Harriet Dart with Kimberly Birrell were defeated by Irina-Camelia Begu & Yanina Wickmayer in the first round in Roland Garros 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-2.

Emily Appleton with Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers were defeated by Alexandra Eala & Renata Zarazua in the first round in Roland Garros 7-5, 6-4.

Joe Salisbury with Tereza Mihalikova were defeated by Michael Venus & Erin Routliffe in the first round in Roland Garros 7-5, 6-3.

Julian Cash with Ellen Perez were defeated by Lloyd Glasspool & Giuliana Olmos in the first round in Roland Garros 7-6(2), 6-4.

Jacob Fearnley with Gabriel Diallo were defeated by Henry Patten & Harri Heliovaara in the second round in Roland Garros 6-3, 6-4.

Maia Lumsden with Sabrina Santamaria were defeated by Mirra Andreeva & Diana Shnaider in the second round in Roland Garros 6-0, 6-0.

Jodie Burrage & Sonay Kartal were defeated by Katerina Siniakova & Taylor Townsend in the second round in Roland Garros 6-2, 6-2.

Julian Cash & Lloyd Glasspool were defeated by Luke Johnson & Sander Arends in the third round in Roland Garros 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(7).

Olivia Nicholls with Tereza Mihalikova were defeated by Olga Danilovic & Anastasia Potapova in the third round in Roland Garros 6-1, 6-3.

Henry Patten with Harri Heliovaara were defeated by Christian Harris & Evan King in the quarter-final in Roland Garros 6-3, 6-4.

Luke Johnson with Sander Arends were defeated by Hugo Nys & Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarter-final in Roland Garros 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Oliva Nicholls & Henry Patten were defeated by Sara Errani & Andrea Vavassori in the quarter-final in Roland Garros 0-0 (RET).

Neal Skupski with Desirae Krawczyk were defeated by Evan King & Taylor Townsend in the semi-final in Roland Garros 3-6, 7-6(2), 12-10.

Nicolas Philibert with Aaron Gil Garcia were defeated by Szymon Kielan & Filip Pieczonka in the first round in Monastir 6-2, 6-4.

Jamie Diack & Viktor Frydrych were defeated by Gilbert Klier Junior & Bruno Oliveira in the first round in Monastir 6-2, 6-3.
