Johanna Konta def. Daria Gavrilova 6-4 3-6 6-3
British No. 1 Johanna Konta had to work heard for another win over the feisty Aussie Daria Gavrilova as she continued to make good progress at the Kremlin Cup.
Both started aggressively trading breaks at the start of the match before another flurry of breaks where Konta took the upper hand for an advantage going into the business end of the first set.
The second set started just as well as the first for the Brit, but double faults crept into her game giving Gavrilova a chance to level up at 2-2, before the Aussie was rewarded for her pushing Konta hard, breaking for a lead before serving out to level the match.
Konta redressed the balance with an early break to take the lead, but found herself under pressure from Gavrilova, whose animated protests at calls were starting to get under Konta’s skin. A vital hold helped the Brit over the line as she battled into the quarter-finals.

Konta v Aliaksandra Sasnovich | H2H: Konta leads 1-0
Confidence could be key here for Konta as she faces Aliaksandra Sasnovich who stunned Kiki Bertens and kiboshed the Dutchwoman’s chances to make the Singapore line-up, as of right.
Konta may have beaten Sasnovich on the way to the Miami title in happier times, and Sasnovich’s dogged determination ground a frustrated Bertens down. We could see that get under Konta’s skin as well, truth be told. Sasnovich is not about the mindless hitting, and is perhaps a more cerebral kind of player, preferring to think about the whole game and produce a chess game on court.
Konta probably needs to hope for a more solid serving day – her serve did get out her out of trouble in key moments today, but double faults almost did for her and Sasnovich is not a player to let those opportunities go unpunished.
Prediction: Konta in three sets.
Konta & Sasnovich are scheduled on Court 1, not before 4:30pm (2:30pm BST).
