WTA Miami: Robson & Raymond Into Miami Semis

By Ros Satar

Lisa Raymond/Laura Robson (WC) def. Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina 6-3, 7-5

Wildcard pairing Lisa Raymond and Laura Robson put out the all Russian number 4 seeds, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in straight sets.

After an initial trade of breaks in the first two games, play quickly settled on serve.

The US/UK pairing got a decisive break to lead 5-3, with Robson holding to love for the first set.

In almost a mirror image of the first set, Makarova/Vesnina got the key break, to serve for the second set at 5-3, only to be broken straight back, to love.

Again Raymond/Robson took advantage to lead late into the second set, 6-5, with Raymond to serve for the match.

The number four seeds saved one of the three match points against them, but it wasn’t enough as the scratch pairing booked their place in the semi-final.

For Robson, this will be a positive end to a disappointing singles run here in Miami, having lost in the second round to France’s Alize Cornet.

Robson is on the players’ list for the Family Circle Cup in Charleston next week.
