WTA Miami: Robson falls in R2 to Cornet

By Ros Satar

Alize Cornet (32) def Laura Robson 5-7, 7-5, 6-1

In this first time meeting of the pair, Cornet had to come back from a set down, and repetitive rain delays to get the better of the British No. 2, booking herself a place in the third round.

After trading breaks in the first two games, it was Cornet who took the initiative breaking Robson in the fifth game to lead 3-2.

Robson halted a run of four successive breaks to get things back on serve with Cornet having to serve to stay in the set, having been a break ahead.

With a break to love, Robson sealed the first set 7-5.

Robson had to claw back 3 break points in the third game to keep things on an even keel, at the start of the second set.

While Britain once again struggles under snow, and sleet, we seemed to have sent our spring rain showers to Miami where there were two rain delays in quick succession.

Cornet eventually got the better of Robson 7-5 in the second set.

Robson seemed to have no answer for the No 32 seed, as the final set swept by in Cornet’s favour 6-1.

Robson is currently on the Players List for The Family Circle Cup, Charleston, starting on March 30th.
