WTA Miami: No Double-Title Joy as Team “RobMond” Fall in Doubles Final

By Ros Satar

Nadia Petrova/Katarina Srebotnik [3] def. Lisa Raymond/Laura Robson [WC] 6-1, 6-7(2)

The dream run for the self-styled “Team RobMond” came to an end in the women’s doubles final, when the no. 3 seeds halted them in straight sets.

The first set got away very quickly from the UK/US pairing, but they were able to put up more of a fight in the second.

It looked as though they might force a Championship Tie-break as Raymond/Robson got a potentially decisive break to lead 6-5.

A double fault, as they served for the set, took the second set into a tie-break.

Petrova/Srebotnik marched on from a 4-2 lead, winning 7-6(2), and ending a great partnership from this fortnight.

Sadly Team RobMond will not be reuniting in Charleston next week, as Raymond will be partnering fellow American, Vania King.
