Wimbledon Day 4 – Women’s round up

By Ros Satar

It had to happen – rain.

Even though the roof was on for the conclusion of the day’s play, the decision was made to reschedule Laura Robson to the opening Day 5 match on Centre Court.

There were some Brits who saw some grass during the day, though.

Alize Cornet/Pauline Parmentier def. Nicola Slater/Lisa Whybourn 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a close match on the outer courts.

The Brit pairings did have their chances but exited in the first round.

In another competitive match, Silvia Soler-Espinosa/Carla Suarez-Navarro def. Tara Moore/Melanie South.  Moore had been in a very tight fought R1 singles encounter with Kaia Kanepi and won a lot of fans with her doggedness, and will also be playing in the Mixed Doubles, partnering Jamie Delgado.

Flavia Pennetta/Andrea Petkovic def. Samantha Murray/Jade Windley 6-0, 2-6, 6-2
