Sevastova def Watson 7-6(4) 4-6 6-2

British number one, Heather Watson’s schedule lessened only slightly as she went out of the singles in the WTA International event in Pattaya City, Thailand.

Latvian qualifier, Anastasija Sevastova pulled Watson to a tiebreak in the first set, getting the better of her, only to lose the second.

But early breaks for Sevastova in the third set saw Watson struggling to get back on terms from 0-3 down, leaving her now with just the doubles (partnering Marina Erakovic) and they were still to play their first round, due to the weather disruption.

The pair had not previously met before on the tour, with the Latvian ranked 183, so this will have been a significant win.

Watson will be representing Britain in the forthcoming Fed Cup tie, along with Laura Robson, Anne Keothavong and Johanna Konta in Eilat, Israel.

Konta will be making her Fed Cup debut.
