[1] Elina Svitolina

Having had her bid to leave Beijing as the new World No. 1 thwarted by Caroline Garcia, Svitolina picks up a wild-card to Hong Kong to rack up a few points ahead of the season-ending finale. She lost a real bruiser of a battle with Garcia, but ought to see herself at least going deep here.

[2] Venus Williams

The elder-stateswoman of the tour skipped the more high profile Wuhan and Beijing tournaments and as luck would have it, she opens against Risa Ozaki for the second year in a row. She reached the semi-final here on her debut in 2015 but only lasted a couple of rounds last year.

[3] Caroline Wozniacki

Already assured of her spot in the Singapore line-up, defending champion Wozniacki is looking to finish the year strongly. She finally win a final this year keep her record going of a title every year since 2008, and she starts against Eugenie Bouchard, who has had a troubled season to say the least.

[4] Agnieszka Radwanska

Having dropped out of the Top 10 after an injury nd illness-stricken year, Radwanska seems to have picked up a little pace in the final part of the year. She has picked up a few wins now back to back, although her title defence came to an end in the third round of Beijing. She is making her debut in Hong Kong.

The Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open takes place between 9-15 October.
