[1] Kiki Bertens

As the clay court season roles around, there is plenty for Bertens to look forward to. She had that great run at the French Open last year, having scooped the Nurnberg title the week after. There is no doubt this is a good surface for her – certainly her best last year, and as top seed she will be looking to make an early claim on clay in Europe.

[2] Katerina Siniakova

It remains to be seen what state Siniakova is in after the scenes last week in Charleston, when she finally (to the relief of all watching) retired having struggled with a back injury through the match. The fact she managed to get the first set while struggling showed he fighting spirit, but she was visibly in distress by the end.

She has a decent pedigree over the last season on the clay, and if she is back to fitness could be good for a decent run here.

[3] Johanna Larsson

It has been a quiet start to the year for the Swede, who has yet to notch up main draw back to back wins. Her bets run has been through the qualifying rounds of Doha, falling at the final hurdle. The green clay of Charleston did her no favours with another first round exit, as she returns to Bogota for the first time since 2009. She battled through qualifying to fall in the first round of the main draw.

She starts with a qualifier that could at least get her off the mark here.

[4] Lara Arruabarrena

Last year’s semi-finalist had her best run on the dirt here, and then maybe surprisingly struggled to really make any impact on the clay court season thereafter. She picked up the pace earlier this year in Miami, making the fourth round after a fairly lacklustre year so far.

It is a tournament that has served her well in the past though – she won the title on her debut in 2012, and as always reached at least the quarter-final stages on her returns.

The Claro Open Colsanitas takes place between 10-16 April (BST +6 hours).
