Juan Martin Del Potro vs (32) Lucas Pouille- H2H: First meeting
Del Potro has made somewhat of a fairy-tale comeback to SW19. First he defeated Stephane Robert in convincing fashion, then he upset fourth seed Stan Wawrinka on Centre Court. With so many problems with injury over the years, many will consider this return a rousing success, but Del Potro will be hungry to go further.
Talented young Frenchman Pouille stands in his way in round three. The 22-year-old has impressed in his opening two matches too and has a big enough game to trouble Del Potro. He is an unfamiliar adversary for the Argentine and a dangerous player to face.
The win over Wawrinka was huge and could inspire Del Potro to go even further in the competition. Another win for the former US Open Champion would be great to see, but Pouille also comes into this match with confidence and nothing to lose. It could be here where the journey ends for the Tower of Tandil.
Prediction: Pouille in five sets
(12) Jo Wilfried Tsonga vs (18) John Isner
This match has the vibes of that epic Isner vs Nicolas Mahut match that seemingly took a century to finish. Both men serve big, both will be difficult to break and tiebreaks are likely. Who will blink first?
Tsonga has the better grass court credentials having previously been a semi finalist here on two occasions. However the Frenchman has struggled with big servers in the past, and this match-up is no different. Isner holds a 3-1 head to head lead but this is their first meeting on grass, will that affect the match-up and turn it in Tsonga’s favour.
Tiebreaks may be aplenty, so this match will likely go down to who holds it together mentally for longer. The head to head does sway the odds in Isner’s favour slightly, but Tsonga has the experience and grass court game to his advantage. That could play a huge factor in this match.
Prediction: Tsonga in five sets
Sabine Lisicki vs Yaroslava Shvedova- H2H: 3-2 Lisicki
Rarely does a match between two unseeded players feature on the Three-to-See, but this will likely be an outside court match, and one to look out for.
Despite being anonymous for the majority of the season, both Lisicki and Shvedova turn up when Wimbledon rolls around. The German is a former finalist and the Kazakh left her mark with a golden set in 2012.
Both are in form and their matches tend to go the distance. 3-2 Lisicki leads the head to head with two of those victories coming on grass. Expect a tight encounter with plenty of twists, and the winner could have the confidence to go further, especially if it is Lisicki,
Prediction: Lisicki in three sets
