Boulter should come into this with some confidence – her stats and results this year put her slightly ahead of the injury-stricken Andreescu.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Andreescu has continued to battle with injuries throughout her career after her landmark US Open win in 2019. And that has sown in this year’s tournaments, only starting her season at the French Open, and then reaching the final in Den Bosch.

However after losing in the Wimbledon third round to eventual finalist Jasmine Paolini, her ride via a second round at the Olympics on clay has been bumpy to say the least, Tokyo has given her the first back-to-back wins since Wimbledon.

That is not to say Boulter hasn’t been on any kind of journey, but again Tokyo has yielded her first run of consecutive wins since Toronto. This will be a test for Boulter, as Andreescu can certainly match her in terms of pound-for-pound power from the back of the court.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.
