It had been a solid performance from Harriet Dart in Tashkent. The Brit had had come from a set down in the final round of qualifying to earn her spot in the main draw, and score perhaps flatters to deceive, as there was plenty of fight and nerves on show.

It started off very competitively with neither player having any difficulty in holding, with Anna Kalinskaya taking the first break point which came her way to establish a lead. Dart, however, pegged her straight back, and indeed made her earn the next break, as the Russian had to toil over four more break points to regain the advantage, before serving out for the first set.

It was a similar story to the second set, with a tight, competitive start before five successive breaks of serve, again with Kalinskaya coming out ahead before serving out the match.

Dart will be in action in the doubles where she will face the other brit in the qualifying draw, Naomi Broady, guaranteeing at least one Brit into the Tashkent quarter-finals.
