ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA – Johanna Konta has yet to score a win in singles as she bows out in straight sets to Oceane Dodin.

Oceane Dodin [Q] def. Johanna Konta [4/WC] 6-3, 6-4
Although Johanna Konta picked up a doubles win alongside France’s Caroline Garcia, she came unstuck against Garcia’s countrywoman Oceane Dodin in straight sets as she continues to try and find some form after returning from a knee injury that plagued her last year.
The start of the set was competitive but Dodin was coming into this with strong qualifying wins behind her, while Konta is still match shy as she continues to make her comeback on the tour after the knee injury that side-lined her after the US Open.
However, while she admitted in Australia that the knee was not causing her more pain (and indeed she played there with no strapping), her lack of match sharpness showed as she was broken at the tail end of the first set.
Dodin was actually on a run of five games in a row before Konta finally got on the board. Although the Brit was not broken again in the match, and even deflected another break point, she was not able to find a way to exploit any part of the Frenchwoman’s game.
She had two chances to break in the final game, before saving a match-point and succumbing to the second.
Konta has a full planned schedule, listed for Dubai, Doha, Monterrey and Indian Wells, which would indicate a little more confidence in her rehabilitation of the knee, and more for the need to get matches under her belt.
WTA Dubai takes place between 17-22 February.
