Playing Styles & Prediction

Katie Boulter has enjoyed a surge in success in San Diego, having breezed past Lesia Tsurenko, and then having had to come from a set behind against the second seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. This is Boulter’s best performance at a WTA 500 level, and can only serve to spring her up the rankings ahead of the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami.

Donna Vekic was taken the distance in her last round, and has decent memories of the last time she was at this tournament, having made a run to the final. Her year has not been too much to wriye home about, with her one highlight being the semi-final of Linz.

Experience is with Vekic, but it is another golden opportunity for Boulter to measure herself up against higher ranked players.

Prediction: Vekic in straight sets.
