The draw has not been kind to Katie Boulter as she lines up against former French Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (Clay 2025)
H2H: | Katie Boulter (WR 40) | Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (WR 52) |
Tournament Previous Best | R2 (2024) | R16 (2011, 2017) |
1st Serve Return Points Won % | 40.0 | 29.6 |
Return Points Won % | 45.5 | 39.0 |
Break Point Conversion % | 52.9 | 28.6 |
Break Points Saved % | 35.7 | 75.0 |
Overall Service Points Won % | 50.8 | 53.2 |
Despite Boulter having had to take an injury break after the Australian Open, she has managed to get more court time than Pavlyuchenkova who is searching for form.
Playing Styles & Prediction
Neither player has set the world alight this year, but Boulter finally nabbed her first win on the WTA main draw clay, but it was short lived in Madrid as she went out in the next round to Roland Garros finalist Jasmine Paolini.
She faces another former French Open finalist but Pavlyuchenkova has struggled for form since reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals this year, and it has been a while since she made any real headway in Rome.
Clay is not a surface that favours Boulter so this match is a real toss-up and experience in more on the Russian’s side.
Prediction: Pavlyuchenkova in three sets.

Emma Raducanu v Maya Joint [Q] | H2H & Match Fundamentals
Emma Raducanu v Maya Joint [Q] | H2H: Pavlyuchenkova leads 1-0 |
WTA Rome | Italy |
Clay (O) | Prize Money: €13,150 |
Fourth on Supertennis Arena. Not before 3:30pm (2:30pm BST) | Sky/Now TV <- Subscription Required |
Emma Raducanu will face Australian qualifier Maya Joint, who will relish the opportunity for another Top 50 scalp with some good clay results on the lowers tiers under her belt.
Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (Clay 2025)
H2H: | Emma Raducanu (WR 49) | Maya Joint (WR 78) |
Tournament Previous Best | R1 (2022) | Debur |
1st Serve Return Points Won % | 35.6 | 40.7 |
Return Points Won % | 45.2 | 47.4 |
Break Point Conversion % | 64.3 | 54.5 |
Break Points Saved % | 62.5 | 60.3 |
Overall Service Points Won % | 56.0 | 54.1 |
Joint will look to be sharper in the return games but Raducanu has proved to be much stronger in the clutch moments.
Playing Styles & Prediction
Raducanu returns to Rome for the first time since 2022 where she made a quick exit in the first round. The claggier conditions will be trickier than Madrid, where she made the second round, but she has an opportunity to pick up a first win.
It has not been an easy start to the year for the Brit, who had first round losses in four tournaments this season.
Joint has cracked the top 1000 this year, thanks to packing in the tournaments, and has been busy on the clay at the lower levels, together with qualifying runs in Madrid as well as Rome. It will give her a familiarity with the surface that Raducanu might lack.
Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.
