Playing Styles & Prediction
Katie Boulter won a hard fought first-round match, perhaps aided and abetted by Harriet Dart having enough of a meltdown to the chair umpire as to earn a stiff rebuke. It is still a period of adjustment for Boulter, who will enjoy being seeded on arguable her best surface, as she faces Canada’s Rebecca Marino.
She edges Marino in all but break points saved in the stats but should have more than enough fire-power for the qualifier.
Prediction: Boulter in straight sets.

Playing Styles & Prediction
Heather Watson made life extremely hard for herself in her first round but made good eventually in a day beset by rain delays. Last year’s semi-finalist has had to rely on a wildcard but comes alive in the grass court season and will hope that the crowd will bring her up s she faces a former world no. 1 who is no slouch on grass.
Karolina Pliskova has also struggled this year. She started well enough with a title in Cluj-Napoca and the semi-final in Doha, the European swing was not fruitful, but the Czech has won three titles on the green stuff, so on this year’s stats she starts the favourite on paper.
Prediction: Pliskova in three sets.
