Playing Styles & Prediction

It was a worthy win for Emma Raducanu in the first round. She met some solid resistance in the second set from Ena Shibahara after having a little wobble from being in the lead, but found a way to come through. She will face Daria Snigur, who breezed past her compatriot Marta Kostyuk. Snigur is a junior Wimbledon champion so is no stranger to the green stuff and has been getting her confidence up on some hard court ITF tournaments after a pretty mediocre attempt to qualify for the French Open.

Raducanu will have the support of the crowd but will need to figure ut how to continue to find her feet this season

Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.

Playing Styles & Prediction

It was a solid win for Fran Jones as she dispatched the seeded Caroline Dolehide in quite the battle, saving five set points along the way. A second WTA quarter-final beckons for the Brit, who is having to work her way back after an injury-blighted 2023.

Another American stands in her way – Ashlyn Krueger started her Nottingham debut well, and has been steady enough this year, and has earned her spot in the Top 100. She chose to play on overseas grass last year but had a strong showing before failing to get out of Wimbledon qualifying.

Jones loves nothing better than to whip up a home crowd and battle away for them, so expect this to go the distance.

Prediction: Jones in three sets.
