Playing Styles & Prediction

So far so good for British No. 1 Boulter, who eased in to the second round, already bettering her last performance in Ningbo. She comes up against Haddad Maia who has been putting in some impressive form on hard courts, with a semi-final in Abu Dhabi at the start of the year, and a strong performance on the US hard courts and on the Asian swing. She reached the final in Cleveland, US Open quarter-final and win the title in Seoul and has picked up a few wins in Beijing and Wuhan.

Boulter certainly has not been quite as prolific, having started the hard-court spring fling well with the San Diego title, and successful defending her Nottingham title, she did not quite set the world alight in the US swing and has yet to notch up a back-to-back win in China. She should take confidence from her record against Haddad Maia but this is destined to be a close one and should go the distance.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.
