MONTREAL, CANADA – Johanna Konta beat Elina Svitolina for the first time on six attempts and will look for a first win against Coco Gauff.

Coming into this encounter 0-5 down in the head-to-head, it seemed a daunting task for the British No. 1 Johanna Konta to get a first win over an in-form and match-fit Elina Svitolina.
Wen the Ukrainian Olympic bronze medallist took the first set, it seemed very much business as usual, before Konta broke late in the second set and served out to level the match.
She went on to reel off five games in a row in the deciding set, closing out the match on her first match point.
She told WTAtennis.com: “That was definitely not an easy match. I’ve never beaten her in my career, so for me personally, this was a massive win. She’s probably the toughest player for me on tour so I’m quite pleased with myself.”
“That, by no means, was a perfect match from me or from her, but it was just about playing what we had. I was just able to find the solutions at the right time.”
