Boulter has been sharper at taking her break point chances, but Stearns has been more clutch when it comes to saving points against her.

 

 

 

Playing Styles & Prediction

Boulter’s two-month sideline after the Australian Open has left her, by her own admission, a little rusty. And facing an opponent who has had the measure of her the two times they have played is hardly an ideal opener in Miami. Especially as she is defending R16 points.

Stearns made her Miami Open debut and backed that up with winning the title in Rabat later in the year, but this year has been a bit tougher with her only main draw back-to-back wins coming in Dubai. However, she is currently on a three -match losing streak and will be keen to get a win in front of a home crowd.

She has clearly had the measure of Boulter in their two previous meetings on hard courts, so this encounter might favour the American, and with very little between them in the rankings, this could be another tough battle for Boulter.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.
