Playing Styles & Prediction

Although Raducanu has made the second round previously, that was when she had the benefit of a bye, so her comprehensive performance against Sayaka Ishii presented the Brit with her first main draw win in Miami. Despite having reached the third round at the Australian Open, she has not really got back into her stride and her strong finish from last year.

Navarro main her main draw debut last year, reaching the round of 16 and backed that up with some solid results over the year, including reaching the Wimbledon quarter-final and the US Open semi-final.

This will be less about whether Raducanu can think her way through the problems presented to her on court, but more whether she can hold up to Navarro’s pace and form on this surface, and on her home soil. At most it will be a good test for Raducanu for where her game is at against the Top 10.

Prediction: Navarro in three sets.
