Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu should take a lot of confidence from her recent performances since returning to the tour after an eight-month injury lay-off.

She has reached the third round of Indian Wells, won two Billie Jean King Cup matches to send Great Britain to the finals later this year, as well as ploughing through two-time Stuttgart champion Angelique Kerber and Linda Noskova last week.

She even took Iga Swiatek to a long drawn-out match in the quarter-finals – so there is much to take from this run. After Karolina Pliskova withdrew, Raducanu is up against qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle. The Argentine has been rapidly advancing up u the rankings and more importantly has over 50 match wins on the clay, so she knows her way around the dirt.

Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.

Harriet Dart has had to fight for her spot in the main draw, coming from behind in both her qualifying matches. After having enjoyed a break-out year in 2022, her best results this year were coming through qualifying at Cluj-Napoca to reach the semi-final but since then she has not been able to string together back-to-back wins.

Also looking for a first main draw win is Spain’s Cristina Bucsa who has reached quarter-finals in Abu Dhabi and Bogota but has struggled in her last two tournaments.

Prediction: Dart in three sets.
