Emma Raducanu [9] v Tereza Martincova | H2H: Raducanu leads 1-0

It probably will come as a welcome relief to just get back to playing tennis after the surprise news that Emma Raducanu was parting ways with her fourth coach in her short career. She will have the ear of the LTA’s Iain Bates, and has spent time in Riccardo Piatti’s academy – as the veteran Italian coach tops the list of potential new coaches for the reigning US Open champion.

Meanwhile she should take a lot of confidence of how she fought through two tough sets on clay against Tereza Martincova to notch up her first senior win in the GB tie against the Czech Republic.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Raducanu had to learn very much on the job in their first encounter, and the occasion really seemed to get to the Czech as Raducanu won three games on the bounce to win the first set. The Brit then had to fight back twice from behind to tackle a jittery Martincova to get her first senior clay court win in two tight sets.

Having played on the slick indoor clay of Stuttgart, she will now have to deal with the fizzing balls at altitude in Madrid, which might help her more aggressive game, and her wanting to take the ball early.

Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.
