Emma Raducanu [9] def. Tereza Martincova 7-6(3) 6-0

Emma Raducanu continues to build on her confidence in fighting back, as she battled from 2-5 down and salvaging two set points to force a first set tie-break, before going on to steamroll Tereza Martincova in the second set.

This was a second match-up with the Czech in quick succession, where she had to really battle to claim her first pro match on clay, reeling off 11 of the last 12 games to beat Martincova on home dirt and in front of a Czech crowd.

It is interesting that Marta Kostyuk actually leads Raducanu in all but one state, having played just one match on clay – in her first round in Madrid. But Raducanu is growing in confidence and will want a bit of revenge for her loss in Romania.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Raducanu is gradually finding her feet on the slippery stuff, combined with her aggressive play and the speed at which the ball fizzes about in the Madrid altitude. Both play with vigour, and will get a great pay-off with their serves, and in this battle of the teenagers, it will be interesting to see if Kostyuk can leverage what marginal more experience she has over Raducanu.

The Brit has showed that she has the fight to battle back, and just maybe she is answering a few haters too with regards to her latest coaching carousel.

Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.
