It has been a quiet start to the year for Katie Boulter, but her win at the Grenoble ITF a couple of weeks ago has given her a boost of confidence which saw her breeze through the qualifying rounds to earn her spot in the main draw.

She will face number six seed Ana Konjuh in her main draw opener.

Despite being ranked a lot lower and having dropped down to ITF levels since the Australian Open, Boulter has an edge in most elements and could make this a lot more uncomfortable than perhaps the sixth seed would like, or even expect.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Both players have had to come back through their career from injuries that could well have ended their careers. Both play an aggressive style of tennis and like to try and dictate and in Konjuh’s case, this has been a challenge when she faces players of a similar style.

Experience is on the side of the Croatian though and while Boulter has made some good strides, this could well be a tough fight on Boulter’s hands. Boulter has the advantage of having had a few matches in Lyon under her belt.

Confidence should see her take this the distance.

Prediction: Konjuh in three sets.
