Iga Swiatek has really shown her resilience and fighting qualities this season with the Pole continuing to be one of the most consistent players on the tour. The Pole has only lost three times this season and it’s easy to see why as Swiatek has a 71% win rate this year after losing the opening set. Compare that to 21% last season and it’s easy to understand why the third seed has struggled to dip in form and continued to be consistent. After winning all three of her matches this week from a set down, can the Pole continue to be the comeback queen and go all the way at Indian Wells?
Standing in Swiatek’s way is Madison Keys who has been rejuvenated after a torrid 2021 season that was blighted by COVID and injuries. The American has already won a title in Adelaide as well as reaching the Australian Open semi-finals where she lost to eventual winner Ash Barty. The American has won over 80% of service games and 43% of return games which shows how much Keys has improved on all parts of her game. Can Keys control her power enough to claim a big title in Indian Wells?
Swiatek’s new-found aggressive tennis will stand her in good place here but she will need to keep the American moving with angles and create opportunities with her variety. While Keys will need to hit through the court and test the Pole’s clutch ability under pressure and limit the third seeds’ options as much as possible. It should be a classic contest and the perfect way to set the tone for the final stages of the tournament.
Prediction: Swiatek in three sets.

Simona Halep has had an underrated season so far having started the season winning a title in Melbourne before falling at the Australian Open to an inspired Alize Cornet. The Romanian has achieved consistent results since then and has beaten Ekaterina Alexandrova, Coco Gauff and Sorana Cirstea to get to the last eight in California. Halep will be looking to take her stubborn defence into a semi-final and ensure that the tour don’t underestimate the 30 year-old heading into her favourite time of year, the clay court swing.
Standing in Halep’s way will be the aggressive Petra Martic, who has took advantage of the slower conditions in California to power her way into the last eight. The Croatian has only dropped one set this week and that was to Emma Raducanu with the 31 year-old producing punishing angles this week. Despite being out of-form this tournament, can Martic complete her surprise run to reach the semi-finals?
Halep will need to serve well and keep the margins high in order to effectively create big opportunities to hit simple winners. While Martic will need to keep creating difficult angles and continue being consistent in all parts of her game. Halep’s game looks too strong at the moment and conditions should favour the Romanian in this clash.
Prediction: Halep in three sets.
