Harriet Dart came through a very tough fight against the higher ranked Marie Bouzkova, and earns a shot against a former Slam champion in lucky loser Sofia Kenin. Dart has met quite a few tough opponents this time around on the grass, but the former Birmingham quarter-finalist must feel she is rounding well into form. Kenin was absolutely humped in her qualifying rounds, but not only did she pick up a lucky loser spot, but she also benefited from Elena Rybakina’s bye – but it does leave her undercooked on the grass with just two matches under her belt.

Prediction: Dart in three sets.

Jelena Ostapenko saw her Birmingham defence end in the opening round and so her opening win here will go some way to re-instilling some confidence, especially at a tournament that she has performed well having won the title in 2021 and been a finalist. Katie Boulter has equalled her best at Eastbourne in reaching the round of 16, and a home crowd could really get under her skin, which will either galvanise her or see her self-destruct – the unpredictability of Ostapenko can never be under-estimated.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.

Emma Raducanu has been continuing her comeback on the tour, with relative success, including a dominant win over fellow US Open champion Sloane Stephens, and having made the decision to skp Rome and Roland Garros, she has found some confidence on the grass. Next up though is a tough challenge in the second seed Jessica Pegula who comes in fresh off winning the Berlin title. Similarly, Pegula skipped the entire clay court season and her progress on grass has been impressive, reaching the quarter-final last year both at Eastbourne and then on to Wimbledon.

Prediction: Pegula in three sets
