Heather Watson [LL] v Rebecca Marino [LL] | H2H: First Meeting |
WTA Eastbourne | UK |
Grass (O) | Prize Money: $4,610 |
First on Court 1 at 11am BST | BBC Sport |
It is second chance saloon for both Heather Watson and Rebecca Marino, as they both come in as lucky losers. For Watson, it is a chance to get past the first round here for the first time since 2017, where she made a run to the semi-final.
If anything Marino has had a little more time on the grass, but has been mainly putting runs together via qualifying, as she makes her Eastbourne debut. Watson with a home crowd should be a safe bet for a rollercoaster three setter.
Prediction: Watson in three sets.
Jodie Burrage [WC] v Petra Martic | H2H & Match Fundamentals
Jodie Burrage [WC] v Petra Martic | H2H: Watson leads 1-0 (Qualifying) |
WTA Birmingham | UK |
Grass (O) | Prize Money: $4,610 |
First on Court 2 at 11am BST | BBC Sport |
Jodie Burrage arrives fresh off the back of a run to the ITF Ilkley final and getting a boost up the rankings in her biggest final to date. Given a wildcard into Eastbourne, she has had a decent run on the grass in the ITF tournaments and could well earn a huge scalp in Petra Martic.
The Croatian has only played one match, in Birmingham, and was out in the opening round, and has only played Eastbourne once, again out in the first round, so there is every chance that Burrage can overcome the more experienced Martic for win.
Prediction: Burrage in three sets.
Harriet Dart [WC] v Madison Brengle | H2H & Match Fundamentals
Harriet Dart [WC] v Madison Brengle | H2H: Watson leads 1-0 (Qualifying) |
WTA Birmingham | UK |
Grass (O) | Prize Money: $4,610 |
Second on Court 1, not before 12:30pm BST | BBC Sport |
Harriet Dart will look to equal her best results in Eastbourne since 2018, where she reached the second round, when she takes on Madison Brengle. Dart has been a quick starter so far in the grass, stunning higher-ranked players this season with aggressive play and has been charging back up the rankings.
Madison Brengle started the season well, reaching the Surbiton ITF quarter-final, but since then has stalled on Den Bosch and Gaiba with first round defeats, while Dart has had solid runs in the UK tournaments.
Prediction: Dart in three sets.
